A Microsoft Clarity alternative that tells you what to fix
Clarity gives you session recordings and heatmaps, and you work out what they mean. Betterloop does the working out: one script tag picks up rage clicks, dead buttons, JS errors and slow pages, and you get back one ranked list of fixes, each with the evidence behind it.
Why look past a free tool
Clarity is free, with no traffic limits and no sampling, and that is hard to beat. People still look elsewhere for three reasons. Someone has to watch the recordings and decide what they mean. Clarity sets cookies, so visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland have to consent first; without consent, each page view becomes its own session. And Clarity does not respond to Do Not Track.
If none of that bothers you, Clarity is a good choice. If it does, Betterloop works the other way round.
The difference in one line
Microsoft Clarity
Shows you what happened.
Recordings, heatmaps and funnels, with frustration signals flagged on sessions and AI summaries. Someone on your team watches, reads and decides what to change.
Betterloop
Tells you what to change.
No recordings. The detectors read what the script and your other tools report, rank the problems, mostly by how many real people each one reaches, and hand you the list.

Where Clarity is stronger
Free at any size
No traffic limits, no sampling and no paid tier. Betterloop's free plan stops at 10,000 events a month.
You can watch the session
When a number looks wrong, a recording shows exactly what the person did. Betterloop does not record sessions, so it cannot show you that.
Heatmaps, funnels and smart events
Click and scroll heatmaps, no-code funnels and events Clarity defines for you. Betterloop has none of these.
Mobile apps
SDKs for Android, iOS, Flutter and React Native. Betterloop watches websites only.
AI summaries and chat
Copilot summarises recordings and answers questions about your data in plain words.
Where Betterloop is different
Nothing to watch
Detectors read clicks, errors, web vitals and navigation, rank what they find, and hand you the list. No hours of recordings.
No cookies
No cookies, no session replay, no keystrokes, no form values. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control turn it off completely.
One small script
Dependency-free, with a build gate that fails if it grows past 10KB gzipped.
More than the browser
Connect GitHub, Sentry, Stripe or Plausible and their findings land in the same ranked list, next to what real users hit.
Fix it where you work
Read the list on the dashboard, in a weekly email, in Slack, or ask Claude Code or Codex what to fix next over our hosted MCP server.

Who should pick which
Pick Microsoft Clarity if
- You want recordings and heatmaps at no cost, however much traffic you get
- You also need to understand a mobile app
- You already collect cookie consent, or few of your visitors are in the EEA, UK or Switzerland
- You want funnels and events without writing code
Pick Betterloop if
- You are a small team or a solo developer with no time to watch recordings
- You want a to-do list, not a dashboard to explore
- You would rather not record your visitors' sessions or set cookies
- You fix things with Claude Code or Codex and want them to see production
Or run both. They answer different questions, and Betterloop is one more script tag that does not need to be the only analytics on the page. Also comparing Hotjar? See Betterloop and Hotjar.
Try it on your own site
Free, no card. Paste one script tag, connect what else you run, and read the ranked list.
